REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 20, 2013 – Central Oregon Truck Company was recently awarded an innovative transportation solutions award by the Central Oregon Association of Realtors (COAR) for the design of its new 28,000 square-foot office building in Redmond.
“We’re really happy to have won this award because it recognizes the time and thought we spent in coming up with the design of this building,” said Central Oregon Truck Company President Cale Pearson. “Company executives and employees worked together with CIDA, a Portland area architect, to develop details and features that we knew we needed. The unique design of our new office building not only helps build a better Central Oregon, but it also helps us maintain a safer open-deck/specialized hauling operation for our customers.”
The building, which was completed in December of 2012, features a training facility with classrooms that adjoin two training bays that can each accommodate a preloaded trailer for tarping and cargo securement training. Moveable walls separate the classroom from the training bay, allowing company trainers to quickly rearrange the space, Pearson said.
“Our trainers can more efficiently train driving team members by having them work on different training exercises at once instead of taking turns,” he added. “Promoting safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Our safety ratings and CSA scores prove that. Designing the training space in our new building is a part of that effort, just as we invest in the latest options in anti-rollover and lane departure warning systems on our trucks and trailers.”
The building, which sits on 9 acres about a quarter mile from Highway 97 in an industrial part of Redmond, also features, among other things:
- Two large maintenance bays, allowing technicians to get preventative maintenance work on truck and trailers done more quickly and efficiently;
- A comfortable lounge, private showers, restrooms and sleeping rooms, an on-site laundry mat and an exercise facility for driving team members;
- An office layout that includes a common area and 4-foot-high dividers so that employees can hear and see each other to collaborate;
- And a computer lab with a high-speed connection allowing driving team members to make video and voice calls over internet to communicate with loved ones at home or to pay bills.
“Driving trucks and trailers with open-deck loads is not easy work,” Pearson said. “By providing comfortable facilities for our driving team members, we demonstrate that they are an integral part of our entire team and company. That helps us retain quality employees.”
“We also included many ergonomic aspects into our facility for internal team members who support our driving team,” added Rick Williams, chief executive officer. “Each desk is electronically adjustable for personal fit and style. Our entire facility and all of our desks are designed to achieve maximum collaboration and communication flow throughout the company. This helps our internal team members provide more organized support for our driving team members than most other carriers.”
