Goodyear Chooses Barnwell House of Tires as Dealer of the Month

AKRON, Ohio, Nov. 3, 2010 — The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company recently named Barnwell House of Tires as its Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month for October.

“We’re honored to be chosen by Goodyear to be one of the company’s top dealers,” said Kevin Gorman, co-owner of the Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based tire dealer. “Receiving this honor reflects on the work of our 100 employees and a dedication we all share to supporting our customers, regardless of size.”

Barnwell House of Tires was started in 1938 by Paul Barnwell. Kevin’s father, John Gorman Sr., took over the business in 1971. During the 1980’s, Kevin, along with his brothers, Bill and Jim, took the company reigns from their father and have built up its commercial line of business through Goodyear products and service support. The commercial line accounts for about 85 percent of the company’s $35 million in annual sales.

The company has two commercial locations, one retail location, a retreading facility and a wheel refinishing shop, in Ronkonkoma and West Babylon, N.Y. The company plans to move its retreading facility and wheel refurbishing shop into a new 43,000 square-foot building in Central Islip, N.Y., by December 2010. The new retreading facility will have three curing chambers and will operate a single shift, producing about 225 tires per day, the same as its current facility, but with room to expand.

Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems offers products and services to the trucking industry, including a full range of original equipment and replacement tires and retreads. In addition, the company offers fleetHQ business solutions to fleets of all sizes. This includes the 24/7 fleetHQ Solution Center, national programs, tire management tools, on-line information access and business problem-solving for tomorrow’s trucking fleets. For more information on Goodyear’s commercial tire capabilities, visit the Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems web site.
