The Journal of Commerce hasn't completely removed the paywall at joc.com, but it has unlatched the gate. JOC Group announced that visitors can access five complimentary pieces of content for free every 30 days (registration required), after which they'll be asked to pay $3.82 a week for unlimited access to articles and archives.
While the premium content model has its detractors, it's working for publishers where the audience is affluent and extremely passionate about a topic (think ESPN, Consumer Reports, Cooks Illustrated, and a range of financial sites). For JOC's sake, here's hoping those characteristics apply to transportation and logistics.
In the meantime, it's a great opportunity to read (or hear) a little Bill Cassidy for free.
